Machine Learning Engineer

Location: Bristol, UK with flexible remote working

Full time /  Permanent - part time & flexible working hours available

Salary: £40,000 - £70,000 per annum 

Vaarst is a deep tech company with artificial intelligence, autonomy, and computer vision at the heart of what we do. This role is for a hands-on Machine Learning Engineer to join our ML production team. We require someone with a strong ML background with a passion for creating and implementing production level ML pipelines. You will be key to advancing our subsea capability across edge ML, SLAM, and Autonomy.

You will need to:

Define approaches to solve ML problems in the marine sub surface space, including working with SLAM, edge ML, supervised and unsupervised deep learning approaches

Create production ML pipelines for images and video

Stay up to date with the latest tools, research, methods and technologies, and keep an eye open for opportunities to apply these

Work collaboratively within the ML Team to approach problems

Work with our computer vision, ML platform and Autonomy teams to identify opportunities to incorporate ML into those solutions

Develop infrastructure and tools for rapid machine learning experimentation

Implement and develop new Machine Learning approaches and services

Continuous evaluation and improvement of models in production

Create high-quality code to solve super interesting problems

Competencies:

  • Strong interest in and experience with machine learning and what it takes to get AI working in practice
  • Technical expertise in AI: Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Statistics
  • Knowledge of relevant metrics and how to apply them to monitor model performance
  • Strong proficiency with Python, or strong experience in other languages and a willingness to learn Python
  • Ability to write high quality code that can be easily understood and maintained
  • Strong experience with ML for image and/or video processing and modern supporting tools e.g. AWS, git, etc.

Additional Experience (desirable but not essential):

  • Experience with ML for video processing
  • Strong experience with MLOps
  • Experience with pytorch(-lightning), opencv, CVAT, docker, ROS
  • Strong experience with productionising machine learning
  • Experience in the marine or GIS domains
